Where Can I Play My Tunes?
So, you’ve just learned to play piano and you are loving every moment of it. It’s fun, pleasurable, and soothing. It helps you to relieve yourself of many stresses of life. But now that you have learned it so well you want t o play it for as many people as possible. But what happens if you mess up? What happens if no one likes the way you play or that great piece that you thought everyone would fall in love with much the same way that you have?
Well, all you can really do there is try - yup - TRY. Start with a few family members, move on to friends. See how that goes. Do they enjoy it? Are you sure? Great! now let’s try something a tad different. Let’s play for a stranger, you know that dude that sits near you at work but you never got the chance to say hello to ever? Yes! Let’s try him. Likes it? Cool!
Now comes the fun part!
Find a place to play your piano/keyboard. Somewhere that’s public - where anyone can give you feedback, compliments, or simple just turn their backs on you and walk away. How is this fun? That’s very simple - the more scrutiny you are placed under - especially from people you don’t know - the more likely you are to work harder to getting your playing style correct. This can be a lot of fun especially if you are open to negative criticism. It can be difficult at first but will become accustomed to it as time passes. Don’t let it affect you negatively, try your best to allow it to become a part of you and take the advice and get better at what you do. It is the only way that you as an artist can continue to make things happen for yourself.
Let me know how it goes below and if you want to share anything, go ahead - I’ll be listening!
